The coaching began in earnest on Wednesday, with a talk on the youth and zone squads delivered by Paul Wren (south and eastern RYA High Performance Manager). Thursday through to Sunday morning saw the RYA coaching staff consisting of Hannah Wilcox, Greg Williams and Alayne Seymour deliver on the water coaching consisting of topics like sailing upwind, sailing downwind, wind shifts, starts and a drop of physical exercise thrown in on the Friday morning for good measure!. With the first round of the youth league imminent our cadets are well placed to build on the success of last seasons successes.

Thanks go to the RYA coaches and to David Cammann and Simon Leeks for their help and support in delivering these sessions.

Good luck to all our cadets with the first round of the youth league.

From everyone at ESC.

Hi all,

Bring on the 2010 season! An excellent seasons worth of coaching in 2009 has given us a solid base to build on for the coaching programme of 2010, with our cadets results improving all last season both at club level and further a field, demonstrating the amazing commitment they displayed in training.

With the 2009 season in the bag, Ely race coaches will be taking back to the water to help the youth squad further build the skills and knowledge needed to win (all dates are available on the youth coaching application form).

Impressed with the steep learning curve of the youth squad, Ely’s adult members have asked for some race coaching! Race coaching will be run on the same day as the youth squad but in separate groups, we will also be running rules evenings, again along side the youth squad (all dates for adult race training are available on the adult coaching application form).

In summary we have a busy but exciting years worth of coaching ahead, and I am certainly looking forward to getting back afloat.

Look forward to seeing you all at the coaching. If you need any information about the layout of the coaching and what to expect then please give either Clare Christan or myself a ring.

Andy Wilcox
